Will
Antidepressant Medication Cure My Depression?
Depression medications or anti-depressant
drugs may help you get a handle on your depression
symptoms in order to make positive changes
in your life so you can begin to deal with the deeper
causes of depression.
It is important to understand that depression medication
does not cure depression. It can help you gain contol
over the symptoms of depression but anti-depressant
drugs are not generally used long-term, nor should
you want to. That said, many do use these medications
and find longer-term use beneficial for them.
Anti-depressant
medications can help give you the boost you need to
implement positive changes...
There are many other approaches to dealing with depression
that you should be doing in conjunction with any anti-depressant
drug therapy program. For example, getting out of
a bullying environment or making other changes to
make the underlying stresses that are causing your
depression less severe.
Another alternative to depression medication is a
healthy lifestyle. Getting proper rest, nutrition
and exercise are key to dealing with depression without
having to rely on depression medication. Anti-depressant
medications can help give you the boost you need to
implement positive changes and create the momentum
you need.
Find
the Right Antidepressant Medication For You
You will have to consult with your doctor about which
antidepressant drug is best for you. Different people
respond differently to the various depression medications
available. What works for someone else is no indication
of what will work for you. Most depression medication
works in subtle ways affecting your brain chemistry.
This is why it is vital to consult your doctor and
follow medical advise closely.
Your doctor will have to monitor your progress and
check for any side-effects. Let your doctor know about
any side-effects you are experiencing while taking
antidepressant medication. Some of the side-effects
can be counter-productive including mood swings, loss
of emotional control and even thoughts of suicide.
You may have to try different antidepressant drugs
until you find one that works for you. Depression
medications take time to build up in your system.
You can't take a pill and expect an immediate effect.
It usually takes a couple of weeks to a month. Follow
your doctor's advise. They may start you at a lower
dosage and adjust the levels over time.

Never
Suddenly Stop Taking Depression Medication!
Just as it takes time to start anti-depressant medication
it also takes time when you stop. I cannot stress
enough the importance of following your doctor's directions.
It can be dangerous to stop taking depression medication
too quickly. Don't make the decision to stop taking
your presciption without talking to your doctor.
Sometimes after the antidepressant drugs take effect
you may start to feel better and be tempted to stop
taking them. This can be a mistake and depression
relapse rates are high. This is because depression
medications generally only mask the symptoms of depression.
Once you stop taking them the symptoms often return.
This is why we recommend using depression medication
as a tool to give you the strength to implement other
positive changes in your life so that you may be able
to eventually stop taking antidepressant medicaton
but be in a stronger, healthier and more positive
place to help you make the transition successfully.
